words and pictures – catching up

postcards are the best type of mail, aren’t they? i can’t think of a nicer way to contact someone. to catch up.

Things I Love – Friday 17th April 2009

+ love letters.

+ my new iMac which should arrive by the end of April! I am so excited about this. Not only does it mean no more ruining my posture by hunching over a laptop whilst sitting on the couch, but it also means I will finally be moving on from OSX 3.11 and 2GB of RAM. Also, me and Ben Folds can hang out and make some music!

+ World Sweet World magazine – I picked this up from a lovely needlework bookshop in Wellington. Their blog is here.

+ I may have posted about this tote bag blog before. But it’s so cute.

+ I am pretty much in love. A whole NY Times section on pickles!!
it includes such gems as Nigella waxing lyrical about chutney, and an article on the the revelation that is Kool-Aid pickles. I might attempt the pumpkin chutney this weekend.

+ Blurb books. I love Charlotte’s family annuals, and I am so inspired!
I’ve made photo books before (we did a wedding one for Tim’s mum and dad) but I love the idea of having a collection of my favourite photos, just of the little things, all in one nicely printed and bound book. Now to decide between Apple books and Blurb books (and any other photobook companies).

words and pictures – collecting

[for more words & pictures on collecting, see here]

i have had many collections over the years. when i was little it was keyrings. rubbers – sorry, erasers. Babysitters Club books (ha). as i got older it was CDs. paper and stationery. and now it’s vintage aprons, tea towels, pillow cases… okay just linens in general. and fabric.

but one of my favourite collections of all time is stickers. what a geek! but they have so much colour. and charm. and they bring back so many memories of Rolf Heimann books and Scholastic book club catalogues.

so here’s a peek at my back catalogue…

p.s. it’s my birthday, hooray!

Things I Love Thursday 26th February 2009

plenty of delicious links here, i promise you! let the fun begin…

+ writing things down. it helps me remember things. plus it’s pretty when you’re done with it.

+ beautiful photos by Sandra Juto – scroll down for the NYC shots, they’re worth it!

+ i have a feeling this is something you’d either love or hate. i’m on team love. the simplicity of it is what makes it so great.

+ if i was a paper good, i’d want to live at Present and Correct

+ this is quite the collection. my favourite number is six. did you know that?

+ delicious new fabrics at Tessuti – [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

+ the sweetest illustration/collage work by Anthony Zinonos – [1] [2] and more at his Flickr here [via Design For Mankind]

+ do you like patterns? do you like patterns on patterns on patterns? in your house? look at this. [via Design*Sponge]

+ Lara Cameron‘s pattern on a bag! at Naked & Angry. i also love this melamine set (in the best colour – yellow).

hello cards

i’m loving this set of card designs. they’re not quite complete but i’m happy with how it’s coming along. let’s hope i can keep up this creativity!

next step: buy a printer. any suggestions or recommendations? i don’t need a multipurpose fax/printer, i just want something that is easy to use with good quality prints. oh and Mac compatible too!

good morning – a card design

if i was going to [get off my bum and finally] make cards, this would be the kind of thing i’d do. kinda general message, multi-purpose but very pretty cards that you can give to your mum for her birthday, or your friends when they move into their newly bought house, or maybe as a thank you for your wedding gifts.

what do you think?

Things I Love – Thursday 14th August 2008 (Get Organised! edition)

i’ll admit it, i’m an organisation junkie. a lot of the time this might only extend to my intentions, not necessarily my actions, but never mind, it’s the thought that counts, right?

so here’s a small collection of things i’ve seen around the place that have piqued my interest in the field of sortin’ it out and gettin’ it done.

+ Analogue time management

+ the beautiful city notebooks from Moleskine (I really wanted the Tokyo one for our Japan trip! but it wasn’t available then)

+ i love the graphic simplicity of the Words manila folders from Kikki.k, and these ones from Nantaka Joy are just so lovely. who ever thought that a folder could be so beautiful??

+ the small object is a trove of cute advice to help you organise your life. e.g. make your own meal planners or shopping lists/notepads. you can also buy lots of stamps and labels and stickers and things in the shop.

+ and of course, don’t forget a nice calendar. (actually i could do a whole post on beautiful 2009 calendars. maybe i will.)

+ and at the end of the day… if you’re anything like me and you tend to forget that the aim of life isn’t to Get Things Done, then make a cup of tea, sit down and read this book. or any other good book. just not something that is on your To Read list.
