still around

amazingly, i am still around. it’s true. i’m just… not so much into blogging these days.
Spring has been pretty nice so far this year, maybe it will give me a sense of renewal like it does most years, and i’ll channel that back into taking photos and writing. two things i have done so little of this year.

hello.

a pause and a breath

i’m back from a bit of a break, which was mostly made up of a trip to Thailand (about which i will share more later), but also just a general break. i like to start my new year’s resolutions in February, because January needs a pause and a breath for me. so i am taking it slow in January. the best way to recover from end-of-2009 madness and holiday madness and all the rest.

the upside is that i have plenty of time to think about what i want 2010 to be, for me. and time to read too. all i want to do at the moment is read books! that’s all.

still here

i’m still around. just busy.

i got back from a New Zealand adventure on Sunday
…photos to follow soon.

also, isn’t Spring lovely?

Japanese giveaway winners: Allison and Pen!

i’ve finally gotten around to organising myself to give out the prizes for my Japanese giveaway. finally! thanks for your patience, dear readers.

Allison and Pen – your bits of kawaii are on their way :]

Happening

Hen's nights.
1st birthday brunches.
weddings.
visiting in-laws.
Christmas parties.
family dinners.
girls' nights out.
it's all happening!

p.s. and a brand new baby niece – little Amelia Kate.

List-y goodness

Leslie's fantastic list got me thinking. i am a list-writer. always have been. but lately my lists have felt so… boring. so practical. and not that fun.

so here's a To Do list of a more inspired nature. in no particular order…

1. get my honeymoon tree transparency scanned and printed and framed.
2. sell my guitar. (any takers?)
3. get prints of wedding photos and put them into the nice big black album that my sister gave me for a wedding present.
4. use the eggwhites in my freezer to make a big, decadent, chocolate-y meringue cake.
5. sew a skirt for my niece using this pattern.
6. list a bunch of screenprints/lithographs/linoprints on Etsy.
7. sleep in late (not sure when this is next going to happen).
8. play (and become obsessed with) Mario on Wii. (we have not been playing nearly enough Wii lately).
9. listen to good music with Tim's good earphones.
10. learn how to mod my Holga to use 35mm film. it seems relatively easy; it's getting prints done that seems to be the tricky part.
11. eat my first gelato of the summer.

i’m missing my poor sick digital camera terribly! i feel like i am missing a limb… or at least a little finger. it’s awfully hard to think of things to write about with no photos to show. sigh.

anyway. this is what is going on:
+ finally got around to designing and printing our wedding thank you cards. it’s shameful how long this small project has taken me!
+ almost finished The Prisoner of Azkaban with Tim. (i’ve read them all before but it’s great rediscovering them with someone else.)
+ looking forward to my apple + cinnamon Crunchola tomorrow morning
- missing my niece and nephew

etc.

_slow and stuff

i’m posting this photo because i don’t have any new images to show. and also because it is a beautiful moment. fast made slow.

Chelsea and Abigail, running.

+++++++

i’m reading this book and it is surprisingly poignant. i’m liking the chapter on TMS – Too Much Stuff Sydnrome. a quote: “The less stuff we have, the bigger our surroundings feel and the better they flow”. this reminds me of Edward Abbey’s words quoted in Carl Honore’s In Praise of Slow: “Walking makes the world much bigger and therefore more interesting.”

i like the idea of slowing down,
stripping back,
culling
and then
finding
and
focussing.

In My Bones

i have lots of things to do (gifts to finish, gifts to start, gifts to finish).
planes fly over my home.
i want to join the library.

you know how it is.

post-wedding post

well. i am somewhat empty of anything creative at the moment. all my energy is going into returning, settling, moving, working, commuting, and trying to keep cool in ridiculous Sydney heat.

this is what i did over the summer:

and it was indeed a blur. a beautiful blur, and i miss it! i miss my wedding, and New Zealand, and the Cook Islands. it was all so lovely. i was such a lucky bride because in the week leading up to the wedding i really had very little to worry about, so i was able to relax with my family and just enjoy the process and celebrations.

but now. back to life. back to work and head first into 2007. i have so much hope for this year, but it is all about settling. into my new apartment with Tim, into the lifestyle that we have been looking forward to, and into all the things i put on the backburner while preparing for the wedding/our trip.

and one of those things is my blog.
so here we are.

p.s. today we received a postcard from Aitutaki, from ourselves. love!
